STATEMENT

We at MonkeyDust make images that tell stories and we believe that stories are powerful. Fairytales, myths, and lore have ancient and deep roots in our culture. Marrying pictures with stories is as ancient as cave paintings and as contemporary as comic books and it’s a tradition that we feel a part of every time we start a new project.

Whether composing complex scenes with dozens of people or intimate portraits, we aim to make each person a character. Whether building worlds out of inky black lines or lush water colors, we try to create spaces the viewer wants to linger in for a while. We strive to engage with the viewer.

We are greatly informed by Illustration's long history. We find influences greats like Rackham and Dulac, Wyeth and Rockwell, McKay and Sendak. We want to take the traditions of these giants and interpret them for the modern world. More simply, we want to make compelling pictures that tell great stories.
